Enrolled Agents (EAs) are the “Elite” federally licensed tax professionals, and are bound by ethical standards contained in U.S. Department of Treasury circular 230, the regulations governing practice before the Internal Revenue Service. The Enrolled Agent credential allows the professional the unlimited ability to represent any taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service.
In order to attain the EA credential, the individual must undergo an extensive background investigation and demonstrate technical competency in the field of taxation. He/she has passed an extensive tax law examination given by the Internal Revenue Service, or worked for the Agency for several years in a capacity involving the application of tax law. As a result of the difficulty in passing the examination Enrolled Agents are widely recognized as “America’s Tax Experts”.Find an Enrolled Agent
